In the heart of a community, where the shores of Lake Erie meet the bustling streets of Cleveland, a story of growth, partnership, and success unfolds. It's the story of Horizon Education Centers, a beacon of early care, education, and youth development, and their journey with Consumers National Bank. Let's dive into this remarkable tale, narrated by Dave Smith, the visionary behind Horizon, who has dedicated nearly three decades to nurturing young minds.

A Legacy of Care and Education

Dave Smith, the Executive Director (or CEO, as the corporate world knows it) of Horizon Education Centers, carries on a legacy that began in 1978 by his mother, Mary, in North Olmsted. Horizon is not just any organization; it's a vibrant community of over 400 employees, tasked with the noble mission of serving over 2,000 children, from infants to eighth graders. With 14 education centers and 16 school-based partnerships, Horizon's influence stretches across a service area defined by natural and urban landmarks, from Lake Erie to the Cuyahoga River.

A Banking Relationship Born of Praise

The journey to Horizon's partnership with Consumers National Bank started with a development project and a word of praise. While working on their 14th center, the Shoreway Horizon Center in Cleveland, Dave heard the bank's name mentioned repeatedly by Mike Cloud, CEO of North Coast Design Build Company. Mike's commendations of Consumers National Bank's partnership approach and ease of collaboration were enough to pique Dave's interest. After experiencing the difference firsthand, Horizon made the switch, leaving behind their previous bank without a second thought.

More Than Just a Bank

What sets Consumers National Bank apart isn't just their financial services; it's the access to decision-makers like Ralph Lober, the bank's President and CEO, and the personalized attention from professionals like Vicki Hall, a dedicated loan officer. Their involvement goes beyond transactions; Ralph and Vicki's personal engagement, including site visits and participation in significant events like ribbon cuttings, exemplifies a true partnership.

Navigating Success Together

Vicki Hall's expertise was instrumental when Horizon seized an opportunity to purchase a building they had been leasing in Berea, Ohio. Facing a tight deadline to close the deal before year's end and avoid a hefty tax consequence, Vicki and Ralph sprang into action. Their prompt and efficient handling of the $3.5 million real estate loan ensured a smooth closing, highlighting Consumers National Bank's ability to punch above its weight by collaborating with other community banks for enhanced project scale and risk management.

Horizon’s CFO, Sharon Knaggs, echoes Dave’s praise; “We love working with Kennie Long, Commercial Deposit Specialist at Consumers Bank because she and the staff are extremely helpful and responsive to our needs. Kennie is always happy to answer questions and walk us through new procedures. Although our administrative offices are 45 minutes from a branch, Kennie stops in to touch base and provides hands-on help setting up our remote deposit machine. We appreciate that Consumers has suggested cash management tools that maximize our return and minimize our exposure to risk."

Join the Community of Growth and Success

Dave Smith's story with Horizon Education Centers and their flourishing partnership with Consumers National Bank is more than just a success story; it's an invitation. An invitation to businesses and individuals alike, seeking a banking experience grounded in mutual growth, personalized service, and community partnership.

If you're inspired by Horizon's journey and envision a similar path for your business or personal banking needs, we invite you to discover more about our services and the difference a true banking partnership can make.
